I am currently in Crete, Greece and I am loving it so far. The water is crystal clear, the weather is perfect and perfect I mean that there hasn’t been a single cloud in the sky since we arrived. Crete is definitely the place where the sea touches the sky.
Speaking about vacation, this is the time where people just want to relax and let go of any stress. Sometimes we get a little bit too relaxed and bring home a few more pounds than we expected.
A lot of people ask me how I stay fit during my vacation. But the truth is, I don’t 😀 Well, you know me, I will always do a little yoga here and there, do one or two short workouts and watch what I eat, but when I am on vacation I’m definitely not caring as much as at home. I like to push me to my limits and watch what I eat at home, so I can relax and let go of my vacation. It’s all about balance, I think.
But, I know that there is another type of people out there. The ones, who do want to stay fit during their holidays. So, I thought I would give you some tips and tricks on how you can stay fit during your vacation. Here you go!
1. Take workout equipment to your trip
The first tip starts at home. You need to pack some workout clothes, booty bands, your yoga mat, maybe a jumping rope and all that good old stuff with you. This will make sure that you have everything you need to have, in order to work out just like at home. Even, if there is no gym 🙂
Personally, I like to take some supplements with me, as well. That way I can always supplement my protein intake, even if the hotel buffet isn’t very fitness-friendly.
2. Find opportunities to workout
A lot of times, there will be no gym available at your hotels. That’s where you have to get creative. Go to the beach and do a little HIIT training there. Or, grab a booty band and do a little workout in your room. Last time, I grabbed a towel and did some exercises with it on the terrace. (I posted a video on my Instagram, check it out!). Let me just say, it was intense.
There are always possibilities to do workouts. Get creative and kill it!
3. Do yoga everywhere
This is what I love to do. On the beach in the morning. At the hotel room at night time. On adventure trips. I do yoga everywhere and it is so much fun. It may not be a whole practice, but it definitely feels good to bend just a little.
4. Discover, discover, discover
If you are in an interesting environment, someplace just like Crete, there are tons of sightseeing things to explore. In one week, we went to 3 full day trips, where we got to see so much of this beautiful island and its history.
The best thing?
You not only get to see interesting and wonderful places and things, but you are also burning a lot of calories during these trips. Walking, swimming, exploring and some more walking. I have got to say, these trips were pretty exhausting and such good exercise, haha.
5. Hike a mountain
If you are into hiking, you should definitely visit Crete. It has precious, high mountains and canyons. Even though I wasn’t exactly hiking a mountain, we were at some high points and the views were breathtaking.
Moreover, hiking is such an effective exercise. Give it a try at your next holiday!
6. Maintain a balanced diet
I have to admit that it is slightly more difficult to eat clean and healthy on your vacation, due to restaurant food and unnecessary ingredients, like fats, sugar and flavor enhancer. However, there are still possibilities to eat healthily.
Personally, I already eat very little meat, but when I am on vacation I avoid it completely. Simply, because most restaurants and hotels process it in a really unhealthy way. Also, you can’t be sure where the meat comes from. It could be low in quality.
A few other tips would be:
- Only eat when you are hungry
- Be careful at buffets. One tends to eat way more on buffets.
- Always go for options like fruits, veggies, fiber-rich foods.
Other than that, it probably won’t cause any harm, if you drink a cocktail, eat an ice cream or some croissants here or there. After all, we have to feed our souls as well and you are still on vacation 🙂
Once this post will be online, I will already be home. I really enjoyed my holidays, but now it’s time to go back to work and kill my workouts.
